Object description :

"Museum – Heart-shaped Ceremonial Spoon – Carved Wood – Folk Art – Brittany"
19th century France – Brittany. A carved wooden ceremonial spoon, belonging to the tradition of 19th-century folk art. The object is distinguished by its particularly meticulous craftsmanship and decoration covering the entire handle, indicating a symbolic or representative function that transcends simple domestic use. The bowl, ovoid and deep, is carefully hollowed. Its underside is adorned with radiating fluting carved in relief, a decorative motif common on antique presentation or ceremonial spoons. The handle, broad and openwork, is entirely carved with a dense and structured geometric design, composed of star-shaped rosettes, radiating motifs, triangular networks, chevrons, and incised friezes. The composition is symmetrical and rigorously organized, devoid of figurative iconography. The handle's end is heart-shaped, accentuating the ceremonial character and symbolic dimension of the object. The carving is bold and deep, crafted with tools, and the skillful openwork ensures a good visual and structural balance. The patina is old, warm, and even, resulting from prolonged handling. The slight cracks and signs of wear are old and stable, without altering the structure or the legibility of the decoration. This type of spoon was used for ceremonial or display purposes and could be kept as a personal object of significant symbolic value. Condition: Good overall condition. Minor old wear and cracks, even patina, decoration perfectly legible. Dimensions: Height: 21 cm Shipping: ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE VIA DHL EXPRESS ONLY.
