The Artist :

Pierre Louis Léger Vauthier (Recife 1845 - Beauchamp 1916) Pierre Louis Léger Gauthier studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

Sometimes referred to simply as Vauthier, he was a painter with an exceptional career, capable of skillfully combining artistic tradition and modernity.

From a very young age, he was passionate about the visual arts, drawing inspiration from the richness of French cultural heritage while also drawing on his Brazilian roots.

A student of M. Lalanne, he quickly demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for drawing and painting, which led him to attend several renowned academies.

He thus explored the full range of techniques, from classical art to more modern and abstract expressions.
He officially began his artistic career at the Paris Salon in 1878, an essential showcase for the art of the time, and was recognized as a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1883.

His talent was acclaimed beyond French borders: he was honored with a silver medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition and received the distinction of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1895. These milestones testify to the recognition he received at numerous artistic events, both at the Salon and at major international exhibitions. His works are held in the Louvre Museum, the Musée d'Orsay, the Petit Palais, the Musée Carnavalet, and many others.
