Important carved marble base – 19th century

Large cylindrical marble base with veined white marble, richly carved in high relief, dating from the 19th century.
This architectural base is distinguished by its elegant monumentality, the quality of its craftsmanship, and the delicacy of its neoclassical-inspired decoration.
The upper part is adorned with figurative panels in bas-relief, depicting allegorical and antique scenes, alternating with cartouches and delicately chiseled vegetal motifs.
The whole is rhythmically arranged with careful moldings, emphasizing verticality and balanced proportions.
The lower barrel features a significant carved central decoration, depicting a symbolic scene framed by garlands of foliage, executed with a fine sense of modeling, characteristic of 19th-century decorative sculpture.
The wide, molded circular base ensures perfect stability and gives the whole a remarkable presence.
This plinth was intended to hold a sculpture, a bust, a monumental vase, or any decorative object. It reflects the 19th-century pronounced taste for references to the Antique and for learned ornamentation, aimed at bourgeois interiors, galleries, or winter gardens.
