A Tailor's Beautiful Tobacco Box, Engraved Horn, 1828
Charming folk art snuffbox from light horn, book-shaped, engraved and painted on all sides: mounted with iron nails and a braided brass hinge.
Lid is adorned of a garland of yellow and red flowers and engraved with date 1828.
On back, and this is superb: a tailor's workshop, showing him presenting a garment to his top-hatted client.
Tools, trousers in progress, and that red Maltese cross on wall...
This ornate back has been a favorite of moths: three holes would need filling. See photo.
Otherwise, surfaces and decoration are in beautiful condition.
Another flaw, easily overlooked: the inner rim of lid is missing.
French work, Charles X period, a little marvel.
