Septarian Nodule On Foot
Magnificent cross-section of a septarian nodule on a metal stand. Septarian nodules are fossilized mud bubbles dating back 50 to 70 million years. Belgium is an important site for the discovery of these objects. Scientists disagree on the formation of the internal shape. One possibility is the expansion/contraction of the bubbles due to the presence of trapped gas. This example is large. The color palette is fantastic, with grayish, earthy, and sandy surfaces that create a calming atmosphere.
