Two reproduction engravings by Giovanni Volpato (1732-1803) of Raphael's Justice and Mercy in the Vatican, based on preliminary drawings by Stefano Tofanelli (1752-1812). They are sold unframed, mounted on canvas and small wooden stretchers. They exhibit damp stains and each has one or two wormholes in the margins. Their plate sizes are 52.5 x 34.8 cm and 52.4 x 33.7 cm respectively. Giovanni Volpato was a renowned engraver in Rome during the second half of the 18th century, supplying Grand Tour tourists with prints after the city's paintings and monuments. He was also an antiquities dealer, profiting from the city's archaeological excavations, and an entrepreneur who manufactured and distributed small porcelain figurines.
