"17th Century Italian "cassone" Chest"
A beautiful Italian cassone from the very beginning of the 17th century, made of richly carved dark walnut. The front features a central cartouche with a scene, probably mythological, flanked by two tritons, and framed by two small panels with cupids' busts. The two side panels are simply boxed, and the whole rests on a wide crossbar carved with a garland of foliage and fruit, supported by two feet formed of animal paws and putti heads. The lid, base, hinges, and virtually all the elements of this chest are original, except for the rear feet, which have been replaced (not visible). This piece of late Renaissance furniture is in very good condition, with a beautiful patina. Some minor repairs have been made to reinforce the hinge attachment to the base, and a crack in the lid has also been repaired. The lock case is present, but the lid is missing its hook. Shipping within France and abroad available upon request. Dimensions: 135 cm long, 62 cm high, and 55 cm deep.
