Devotional Altar In Carved And Gilded Wood
Elegant devotional altar in finely carved wood, gilded with genuine gold leaf, made in the second half of the 19th century, in a Neo-Baroque style inspired by 17th- and 18th-century models. The composition is dominated by a radiant sunburst with a central cloud, symbolizing the divine presence, surrounded by winged cherub heads carved in the round. At the base of the central motif stand two kneeling adoring angels, finely carved and expressive, lending movement and solemnity to the whole. The lower section features a shaped and animated base, decorated with scrolls, foliage and relief mouldings, characteristic of 19th-century Baroque revival decoration. On either side are four integrated candle holders, also carved and gilded, harmoniously incorporated into the structure. The upper section is completed by an elegant gilded canopy, surmounted by a cross, emphasizing the liturgical and devotional purpose of the piece. The gold-leaf gilding, warm and luminous, displays a pleasing natural patina, attesting to the age of the object and the quality of its craftsmanship. A piece of strong decorative presence, ideal for collectors of sacred art or as a refined decorative element.Period: Second half of the 19th centuryOrigin: ItalyMaterial: Carved wood, gilded with gold leafHeight: 77 cmWidth: 50 cmDepth: 30 cmCondition: Good overall condition, with minor wear consistent with age
