"Commode d'Entredeux, Also Known As Demi-commode, From The Louis XVI Period. "
An elegant small commode, also known as a demi-commode, from the Louis XVI period, opening with three drawers on the front separated by intermediate rails. The top drawer is shorter than the two lower drawers, a characteristic feature of late 18th-century furniture. The frame is made of oak and fir, while the drawers are entirely oak, ensuring sturdiness and quality craftsmanship. The front uprights are chamfered, and the commode rests on four tapered, square-sectioned legs, typical of the Louis XVI style. It is topped with a thick, gray Sainte-Anne marble slab, molded with a quarter-round molding, perfectly fitted and in excellent condition, without chips or restoration. The commode is veneered in rosewood, laid in a two-leaf herringbone pattern, and embellished with a composite stringing design: light boxwood stringing framing a black-stained wood stringing, punctuated by checkerboard patterns alternating light and dark wood, the whole bordered by a thin boxwood stringing, and finished with rosewood bands. This type of composite stringing, punctuated by checkerboard patterns, was particularly popular during the reign of Louis XVI. It can be found in Parisian production, notably by cabinetmakers such as Mantel and Lardin, as well as in certain high-quality regional pieces. The front uprights are veneered with simulated glyphs alternating light and dark wood, a design also found on the exterior of the tapered legs, reinforcing the elegance and verticality of the piece. The sides are veneered using the same decorative principle as the front, creating a highly refined aesthetic unity. The bronze ornamentation, entirely original, consists of beautiful circular keyhole escutcheons and drop rings with a row of pearls. The three drawers retain their original, functional iron locks with an antique key. In very good condition. The chest of drawers has been revarnished, respecting its antique appearance while preserving a beautiful patina, offering a refined presentation while maintaining its authenticity. Dimensions (to the marble top): Width: 65 cm, Depth: 39 cm, Height: 83 cm
