Rodolphe-Théophile Bosshard, born June 7, 1889, in Morges and died September 17, 1960, in Chardonne, was a Swiss painter. From 1907 to 1909, he studied at the Geneva School of Fine Arts. In 1910, he visited Paris with his friend Gustave Buchet. In 1916, his first major exhibition took place in Lausanne at the gallery run by Paul Vallotton. From 1920 to 1924, he lived in Paris. Critics at the time considered him one of the leading painters of the era.
The Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris acquired several of his paintings. The artist exhibited alongside Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso. In 1926, he returned to Switzerland and settled in Riex. His numerous travels, particularly to Greece, Algeria, and Italy, provided him with new subjects.
In 1944, the artist moved to Chardonne. After his early expressionist works, the artist was influenced by Cubist explorations. The female nude would come to occupy a prominent place in his life and in the composition of some of his landscapes.
