First Half Of The 19th Century Pair Of Paintings On Wood
Refined
pair of oil paintings on wooden panels, complete with a carved wooden frame and
a wooden passe-partout. The paintings depict two figures, both on white horses.
The first, with his horse raised on its front legs, echoes the portrait of the
Sun King, a young Louis XIV, whose rich clothing, bridle, and hat are striking.
The other painting, however, is inspired by the portrait of Charles V, Holy
Roman Emperor, who wears chain mail and displays a more austere bearing. This
pair of paintings exudes great taste and refinement, adding a touch of class
and antiquity to any setting. Italian craftsmanship from the first half of the
19th century.
