Bronze Fireplace Garniture
A clock and two gilt bronze candlesticks by Jean-François Denière, bronze sculptor (1774-1866). The signature "Denière" or "Denière Fabt de Bronzes à Paris" corresponds to Jean-François Denière (1774-1866), one of the most important Parisian bronze sculptors of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Within a few years, he became one of the leading suppliers of bronze furniture by working for the Imperial Furniture Repository; at the same time, he built a wealthy private clientele and, until 1820, formed a partnership with François-Thomas Matelin, which allowed him to participate in the decoration of most of the imperial palaces and castles by supplying bronze furniture and clocks through some of their fellow bronze sculptors.
