Superb antique table lighter, intended for parlor use, typical of the Belle Époque period.
English manufacture, attributed to Richard Hodd late 19th (c. 1872–1888).
The RH on RH hallmark was only used during the period 1872- 1888.
Richard Hodd and Sons were located in Hatton Garden in London and made candle holders,cups,mugs,mustardpots,Masonic jewellery ands moking accessories
It is used as follows:
The central wick is lit. The two side wick holders are filled with lighter fluid.
The cigar is then lit with these wicks.
To extinguish the wick, simply replace it and relight it.
An elegant, monogrammed, and uncommon item, sought after by collectors of antique smoking accessories or decorative silverware.
