Paul Morchain (1876-1939):
Paul Morchain was a self-taught painter who began his career with the Société des Artistes Français in 1906, where he won a gold medal in 1920 and was appointed an official marine painter in 1921. He was a regular visitor to Douarnenez and Concarneau. He established himself as a major painter of the Cornouaille region. His style is in the tradition of local painters who sought to capture the truth and atmosphere of local life with sincerity. His works can be found in numerous museums in France, notably in Paris (at the Musée de la Marine), Bordeaux, Rochefort-sur-Mer, and Douarnenez.
