"Early 19th Century Gilt Bronze Portico Clock"
Gilt bronze portico clock, Empire period, early 19th century; A beautiful portico clock in finely chased and gilt bronze, typical of the Empire style. The circular white enamel dial with black Roman numerals is framed by a finely guilloché bezel. It has two winding holes and blued steel hands. The mechanical movement, with a wire winding mechanism, strikes the hours and half-hours and is powered by a decorative pendulum in the form of a radiant sun with a central face. The structure rests on two uprights in the form of draped female caryatids in the antique style, resting on claw feet. The decoration is rich and symbolic: eagles with outstretched wings, laurel wreaths, scrolling foliage, and beaded friezes, characteristic of the Neoclassical aesthetic of the early 19th century. The clock rests on a finely molded oval gilt bronze base, set on toupie feet. The whole is distinguished by the quality of the Chiseling, balanced proportions, and beautiful preservation of the gilding. Height: 43 cm Width: 22.5 cm Very good overall condition
