Pair Of Gilt Bronze Candlesticks, After Meissonnier. Napoleon III Period.
Artist: D'après Meissonnier
After MEISSONNIER,
a pair of richly chased gilt bronze candlesticks, decorated with three children entwined around a central shield bearing motifs of scientific instruments, whose small legs blend into the overall movement of the twisted shaft.
They support, with raised bars, candle cups with simulated fluting, and a heart-shaped decoration.
They rest on a stylized, undulating base.
Napoleon III period.
This very beautiful pair of candlesticks, with its slight variations, particularly in the cartouche's attributes, reproduces the original model, which is believed to have been designed and created by Juste Aurèle MEISSONNIER for the birth of the Dauphin on September 4, 1729.
Meissonnier was the designer for the King's Chamber and Cabinet. Ref: Juste Aurèle Meissonnier, a genius of the Rococo, by Peter Fuhring
