Extremely rare and in exceptionally well-preserved condition, this Empire-era vase, dating from around 1810, is made of mercury-gilt bronze.

The cylindrical rim is adorned with a repetitive egg-and-dart/gadroon molding forming a continuous wreath, and a long garland of vines and small bunches of grapes beneath the flared section. This garland crowns a high-relief mythological scene depicting alternating heroic nudes, draperies, helmets, and narrative poses featuring the (identified) figures of Mars, Athena, Mercury, Venus, Victory, and Silenus.

Two handles are attached to the body, terminating in bearded mascarons against a background of acanthus scrolls and volutes. The vase rests on a richly molded foot (leaf friezes, pearls/cords), then on a fluted stem that flares into a bell shape before joining the marble base.

The base is carved from a dark, purplish-red to purplish-brown marble, very compact, with a network of white veins sometimes thick, and in places darker shades creating a cloudy effect, resting on an overhanging circular plinth of polished black marble, with a rounded profile.
