Pair Of Louis XVI Period Wall Sconces In Gilt Bronze And Mercury

Artist: Modèle De Jean Louis Prieur
An important pair of Louis XVI period wall sconces with two lights in chased and mercury-gilded bronze. The shaft is decorated with fluted molding and laurel garlands and is surmounted by a fire pot urn. The lights are chased with acanthus leaves and heart-shaped motifs. They feature water-fed bobeches and cups with twisted fluting and heart-shaped motifs. The gilding is beautiful. The sconces are not wired for electricity. A model by Jean-Louis Prieur; a similar model is in the Louvre Museum, the Royal Palace of Stockholm, etc.
