Small Mahogany Display Cabinet, Louis XVI Style – Late 19th Century

This elegant display cabinet is crafted from solid mahogany and mahogany veneer. It features a glazed door at the top, offering an unobstructed view of the displayed items, and two lockable drawers at the bottom. The entire piece is delicately accentuated by brass stringing, which enhances its lines and emphasizes its precious character. The front corners are chamfered. The bronze ornamentation is particularly refined: the locks are adorned with beautifully crafted escutcheons, and the keys are chased. The drawer escutcheons feature cherubs, while the glass door escutcheon depicts a delicate palmette. The interior of the cabinet is lined with burgundy velvet, creating a warm and luxurious setting for the displayed objects. Three height-adjustable shelves allow for flexible arrangement. The cabinet rests on tapered legs ending in foliate sabots, adding a touch of sophistication. The raised plinths enhance the presence and elegance of the piece. The back of the cabinet is labeled "Zollamt Wien." This display cabinet embodies timeless elegance and craftsmanship, offering each displayed object a sumptuous setting. Customs Label: The emblem depicts a crowned double-headed eagle, an imperial symbol used by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The inscription "ZOLLAMT WIEN" means "Vienna Customs Office." This customs label was used for goods transiting through Vienna, Austria, in the late 19th or early 20th century. ********Period: Late 19th century.
