Pair Of Still Lifes With Bouquets Of Flowers, Watercolors, 18th Century
Exquisite watercolors, each depicting an opulent bouquet of flowers of various varieties (tulips, peonies, poppies, etc.) arranged in a vase resting on a table. Particular attention is paid to the rendering of the flowers as well as the small details completing the compositions, such as pomegranates, insects, and brocade.
An inscription, surmounted by a label bearing a number composed of the initials EM and a motto, appears on the back of each work:
“Eugène Marquet Collection / (1st series - Drawings and Watercolors) / No. 21 / Flowers and Insects / 18th-century watercolor / of great finesse / Anonymous / See No. 22 / which forms a pair”
