Sarreguemines, Nightingale Teapot, Land Of Egypt
Sarreguemines, this teapot on a nightlight in Egyptian clay is described as "Lamp with lantern, new shape" in a catalog from the 1840s held at the Sèvres Museum.
The lower, openwork section originally held the lantern (see catalog photo), a small piece now missing.
This rare teapot on a nightlight is in four parts:
- the openwork base on three feet
- the body
- the teapot
- the lid of the teapot.
Each piece and its decoration were molded in one piece.
One foot and the lid handle have been reattached, minor damage for a utilitarian object of this age.
