Object description :

"Restored German Pickelhaube Helmet With Officer Aesthetic. Germany, Circa 1900"
Attractive restored German Pickelhaube helmet, dated to Germany around 1900, presented with the aesthetic of an officer helmet and with a very strong visual presence. This is a piece made from an antique non-commissioned officer helmet, carefully modified to appear as an officer helmet and to achieve a balanced, coherent and highly decorative overall result.

The helmet retains the shape, volume and structure typical of the German Pickelhaube from the late 19th century and early 20th century. On the original non-commissioned officer base, antique officer fittings have been mounted. The only element that is not period-original is the front plate, which is later. The rest of the visible fittings correspond to antique pieces, correctly integrated into the helmet.

The helmet has been fully restored. The leather shows a clean and uniform finish, with good structural solidity and no significant deformations. The metal elements display a uniform golden tone, well matched to the overall appearance and with a patina consistent with the age of the pieces. The interior is in keeping with the restoration carried out.

This is a piece that fits very well within a collection of German militaria, in a display case dedicated to historical helmets or as a standout element within a private collection. It offers the attractive aesthetic of an officer Pickelhaube, with a more contained cost than a fully original example.

An interesting piece for collectors who value visual presence. It is also a very good option as a special gift for enthusiasts of German military history or collectors of historical helmets. A clear opportunity for those seeking a German Pickelhaube with strong visual impact, restored using antique components and well resolved as a whole.

History of the Pickelhaube Helmet

The Pickelhaube helmet is one of the most recognizable elements of the German army and, especially, of the Prussian army. It was officially introduced in 1842 by order of King Frederick William IV of Prussia, in a context of modernization of military uniforms and the pursuit of a strong and unified image for the army.

Made primarily of hardened leather, the Pickelhaube offered limited protection, in line with the conflicts of the 19th century, in which close-range engagements still played an important role. Its design stood out for the characteristic metal spike on top, which soon became a distinctive and symbolic feature of the German soldier, beyond any specific practical function.

During the second half of the 19th century, the Pickelhaube was adopted by most German states and spread to infantry, artillery, cavalry and other units, with variations depending on the federal state and rank. By the late 19th century and early 20th century, the Pickelhaube had become a true symbol of the German Empire, associated with discipline, order and Prussian military power. With the arrival of the First World War and changes in combat tactics, the helmet was progressively replaced by more functional steel models, such as the Stahlhelm, relegating the Pickelhaube to ceremonial and dress use.

Today, Pickelhaube helmets are highly valued in militaria collecting for their strong historical significance, symbolic value and unmistakable visual impact. We are professional antique dealers. To see more photos of this item, Please click on this link:
