18th Century Medallion "the Massacre Of The Innocents"
We present this 18th-century mother-of-pearl framed medallion depicting the Massacre of the Innocents ordered by Herod. This episode is recounted in the Gospel of Matthew, along with the Flight into Egypt. The murder of all these children under the age of two in the Bethlehem region was ordered by Herod, who feared the birth of a child who would become King of the Jews, as foretold by his own soothsayers and Magi. This event is celebrated, incidentally, on December 28th, so the dates are accurate. In impeccable condition. Shipping extra.
