Carved And Gilt Oval Frame, Louis XVI Taste, Papal States
Refined oval carved and gilt wooden frame, dating from the late 18th century (circa 1780–1790), attributable to the Louis XVI taste, still strongly influenced by persistent Baroque reminiscences rooted in early 18th-century models, typical of the Papal States area. The frame features a highly animated decorative structure, characterized by a rich deeply carved cartouche with dynamic scrolls and flowing lines, recalling designs from the first half of the 18th century. Onto this more archaic structure are applied more orderly and regular ornamental motifs, such as rosettes and small floral elements, characteristic of the Louis XVI decorative language, resulting in an interesting balance between Baroque tradition and late 18th-century refinement.Entirely hand-carved and sculpted, the frame is gilt with gold leaf and shows natural wear, with widespread abrasions that enhance its fine antique patina and authentic charm. The wear is fully consistent with the age of the object and does not detract from its overall elegance. From a conservation standpoint, the frame is in good overall condition, showing normal signs of age; no significant restorations, alterations or later interventions are evident. The original hanging hook is still present.A frame of high decorative quality, ideal for enhancing small paintings, miniatures or antique prints, and perfectly suited to refined interiors or collector’s settings.Dimensions:– Maximum height: 32 cm– Maximum width: 24 cm– Sight size: 16.5 × 12.5 cmFor further information, photographs or technical details, please do not hesitate to contact us.
