Dandy's Waistcoat In Embroidered Chimney Sweep Satin - France Circa 1815-1825
Circa 1815-1825, France. A chimney sweep's silk satin waistcoat, dating from the early Restoration period, belonging to an elegant gentleman or dandy. It features a high-waisted cut, a shawl collar, two pockets, and six covered buttons, all piped in ecru silk. The waistcoat is intricately embroidered in polychrome silk and gold thread using chain stitch and satin stitch. The stylized floral design is in the Neo-Gothic style typical of this period. The original brown silk twill back, with its tightening tabs, has been widened at the sides. It is lined with cream lawn (with stains and watermarks on the lining). Note a very slight, barely visible depigmentation of the brown satin and small watermarks under the armpits. The silk is stable and strong, with no major flaws. Overall, it is in good structural condition. Suitable for wearing or collecting. Size: Equivalent to a men's size 48-50. Height 47 cm, shoulders 46 cm, chest 105 cm, waist 100 cm
