Bernard Van Riesen Burgh (bvrb) (1700-1760),
An exceptional lady's slant-front desk in veneered wood, with a serpentine shape and marquetry decoration of foliage and scrolls. It opens with a curved fall front, held by two pull-out slides, revealing six sinuous drawers surmounted by a horizontal niche, and three niches, one of which forms a secret drawer with a locking mechanism. The fall front is covered in its original leather, decorated with gilt foliate scrolls and tracery. This desk rests on four cabriole legs, fitted with superb gilt and chased bronze sabots. It is richly ornamented with gilt and chased bronze mounts featuring shells, foliage, and ingots. It measures 92 cm in length, 55 cm in depth, and 90 cm in height. A similar model is shown on page 152 of Pierre Kjellberg's book.
