Large Carcel-type lamp in the shape of a column, made of dark green lacquered metal and gilt brass, resting on a square base, complete with its circular reservoir and original glass shade engraved with a decoration of laurel garlands and flowers. In good overall condition, unpainted and unpierced. Height 61 cm (49 cm without glass). Diameter 23 cm. Base 10.5 x 10.5 cm. A Consulate/Empire period piece. Biography: Guillaume Carcel, a clockmaker by trade, filed the patent for his invention in October 1800. Our lamp is of the "sinabre" type (shadowless) due to the circular design of its reservoir.
