Art Deco Rolling Table, Maison Baguès, Circa 1940

Artist: Maison Bagués
Attribution and period

French Art Deco bar cart attributed to Maison Baguès, the renowned Parisian firm celebrated for its decorative brass and bronze works. This model dates to the mid-20th century, circa 1940–1950, a period marked by the production of refined service furniture combining architectural metalwork and glass.

General description

The cart stands on a balanced and symmetrical structure, supported by two large rear spoked wheels and two front swivel casters. The upper section features a central rectangular glass top, complemented by two curved glass side leaves that fold outward, extending the serving surface and creating an oval silhouette when fully opened.

An integrated brass handle facilitates movement. The lower tier consists of a thick glass shelf enclosed by a brass gallery rail, incorporating an integrated bottle or ice-bucket holder—an element typical of bar and drinks trolleys intended for formal service.

Materials and craftsmanship

Solid brass structure assembled with screwed fittings and spacers. Architectural circular motifs and central rosettes with radiating decoration articulate the design. Thick glass shelves with polished edges. Turned spoked wheels fitted with dark banding, enhancing both visual contrast and mobility.

Model and rarity

This cart belongs to a less frequently encountered type within the Maison Baguès production. The combination of folding curved glass side leaves and a large-wheel architectural frame appears only sporadically on the market, contributing to the model’s scarcity and desirability among collectors of French decorative furniture.

Condition

Very good overall condition. The brass presents a consistent, attractive patina. Minor surface marks to the glass and wheel bands are consistent with age and use and do not detract from the structural integrity or presentation of the piece.

Market positioning

This example is offered with a particularly attractive positioning when compared to other comparable Maison Baguès bar carts currently available on the international market, representing a compelling opportunity within this category.
