Pair Of Bienaise Folding Chairs – Nelson Brothers – 1930s
A rare and authentic pair of folding chairs known as the “Bienaise,” an iconic model designed by the Nelson brothers in the 1930s. These chairs perfectly illustrate the functional and rationalist furniture of the interwar period, intended primarily for schools, community halls, and government offices. The frame is made of bent metal tubing, lacquered red, forming a sled base. The ingenious and robust folding mechanism allows for easy storage while maintaining excellent stability when open. The seat and backrest are made of molded plywood, attached with visible screws, characteristic of industrial production at the time. The clean lines of the design, dictated by function, make them sought-after pieces today by collectors of industrial furniture and French design from the 1930s, for both decorative and functional use.
