Lion Of Medici Around 1800, Grand Tour
A charming little sculpture in white Calacatta marble, representing one of the lions that once stood at the entrance to the Villa Medici in Rome. These works are among the "icons" of classical sculpture and were the pride of the great Italian Renaissance families who owned them. They were frequently copied in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, brought back as souvenirs from the famous Grand Tour undertaken by young aristocrats of that era to broaden their horizons by discovering the wonders of Italy. Excellent condition. Dimensions: 16 x 11 cm
