Large Ceramic Ball Vase From Longwy With Red Lizard Decoration
This vase was produced by the renowned Émaux de Longwy manufactory, established in 1798 in Lorraine, internationally known for its traditional enamel techniques on faience.
The marks visible on the base, together with the internal inscription dated May 6, 1990, allow for an accurate dating to the late 20th century, a period marked by the creation of sculptural and highly decorative Longwy models.
The vase features a large spherical form, resting on a circular foot, entirely covered with a deep red enamel glaze, a color particularly associated with Longwy’s refined production.
The body is animated by three sculpted lizards in relief, arranged as if moving around the vessel. These zoomorphic elements are carefully modeled and enhanced with hand-painted black dotted details, creating a strong visual rhythm and chromatic contrast.
Enameled faience, hand-painted decoration.
Each lizard is individually modeled and applied, then fired as part of the overall composition. The enamel surface shows notable depth and regularity, reflecting the technical expertise of Longwy workshops.
This sculptural vase belongs to the later decorative production of Longwy, intended for collectors and interior decorators, combining long-standing artisanal tradition with a bold decorative approach.
The presence of the original certificate of authenticity confirms its manufacture in France and its handmade origin.
Very well preserved, with minor traces inherent to the firing and glazing process. No visible restorations.
