Malangan Vavara Disc
Polychrome disc, made of woven plant fibers over a frame of wooden and rattan rods. It is decorated with geometric patterns painted with lime and red ochre mineral pigments. Vavara discs are used in Malangan funeral rites only for the death of a woman or a young man who died before being initiated.
