Rare Wrought Iron And Stained Glass Lamp, Circa 1900, By Alphonse Louis Calmels
Augustin Louis Calmels. Art Nouveau period. A celebrated stained-glass artist and craftsman of the 1900s, whose worldwide reputation made him a master of glass and wrought iron. Some of his lighting fixtures and light panels are featured in museums around the world. He produced very few lamps and chandeliers of this type during the Art Nouveau period in France. This rare lamp is in beautiful condition and presentation and provides breathtaking illumination. (One glass pane on the shade appears to have been replaced, and a small piece glued back on. There is a discreet crack on another small glass pane. These are not noticeable when the shade is positioned correctly towards the back and when the lamp is lit.) The globe shows no restoration or damage. The glass assembly lead cames are in good original condition. (See photos, which also serve as a description.) Signed: A. Calmels with a branding iron on the base. (See photo.) It is in good working order, and the cord, plug, and switch have been replaced. Beautiful and generous dimensions: 42 cm high and 34 cm wide! Only a smaller model appears online, listed as "sold"... later found on a gallery's website in the USA at a very high price. This lamp presented here is an exceptional piece by the artist! Shipped in very good packaging in two appropriate cardboard boxes with bubble wrap and polystyrene, and a wooden crate. Worldwide shipping.
