Louis XVI Style Dog Kennel Forming A Stool
A late 19th-century dog kennel in the form of a molded and painted wooden stool, cubic in shape, with fluted uprights and ribboned crossbars resting on four baluster legs. Upholstered in fabric with a floral design, in perfect condition. High-quality work in the Louis XVI style. History: The term "kennel" itself appears in inventories in the 17th century. Previously, the terms "chest" and then "dog crate" were preferred. Few examples of 18th-century dog kennels have survived. These were small pieces of upholstery furniture, not cabinetmaking, with a wicker or wooden frame covered in fabric and fitted with a mattress.
