Tapestry from Felletin. Creuse. Renaissance period. Tapestry panel from Felletin (Creuse region, near Aubusson), late 17th/early 18th century. Based on Greek mythology, it tells the story of the goddess Psyche, goddess of the soul (Psyche was born mortal; her beauty rivaled that of Aphrodite (Venus) and aroused the love of Aphrodite's son, Eros). Made of wool and silk. Psyche is depicted in the center, and Cupid is in the upper left. The border features stylized flowers and foliage. Very good condition.
