French Officer's Uniform In Grey Shagreen Case, Late 18thc
Artist: Anonyme
Small miniature of a smiling French officer, handsome in his red jacket uniform: garde Royale, under Louis XVI.
The portrait, while not painted by a great miniaturist, captures the character's charm. It is housed in a lovely oval case with a side hinge and brass hook, covered in high-quality, coarse-grained gray shagreen, beneath a domed glass cover.
One hook is missing; the glass may have been replaced.
