Folding Fan With 18 Ribs, Gallant Scene Painted On Fabric, Late 19th, Early 20th Century
A beautiful 18-rib folding fan. The fabric leaves feature a gallant scene in the center and two lakeside scenes painted in cartouches on either side, surrounded by delicate sequin and fabric decoration simulating flowers.
The horn frame is engraved with gilt and silver foil appliqués. It has horn arrows, a metal bail, and passementerie tassels. There are a few small pieces of gauze missing from the back of the fan (see photo).
The original cardboard box, labeled "C. Bourdet, Joaillerie orfèvrerie objets d'art, 10 place de l'Hôtel de Ville, St Étienne," is in its original condition.
