Commemorative cylindrical earthenware beer mug with manganese mottled decoration, base and rim with denticulated tin bands and flat-roofed lid of the same, fitted with a ball thumb rest, it is decorated in the center with a medallion bearing the effigy of Martin Luther and the inscription "DOCTOR MARTINUS LUTERUS – AETAT 63*"
Mark of an unidentified pewter master potter: justiciar with sword and scales / IBG / 99
Town hallmark: rearing horse (?) / 1699
Diameter: 13 cm Height: 25 cm
Saxony, early 18th century
In good condition, a crack is noted in the lower part visible on the inside but not through the wall.
*Martin Luther died in Eisleben in 1546 at the age of 63.
