The wrought iron base, with its dynamic design and partially gilt finish, is topped with a warm-toned travertine top. The combination of the stone and the gilt metal creates an elegant and luminous piece, perfect between two armchairs or as an end table. Gilbert Poillerat (1902–1988) was one of the great French masters of wrought iron, a leading figure of late Art Deco and the 1940s and 50s. Trained at the École Boulle, he created railings, lighting fixtures, and furniture for private residences and ocean liners, employing a vocabulary of scrolls, foliage, and stars. His works are distinguished by their clean lines, impeccable craftsmanship, and touches of gold that define his French elegance.
