"Graphometer With The Initials Jc By Canivet, C. 1750"
A brass graphometer signed "Canivet à Paris à la sphère" (Canivet in Paris with a sphere) adorned with a rich decoration of flowers and leaves forming the initials JC for Jacques Canivet. Jacques Canivet was active between 1740 and the late 1770s, so the graphometer dates from the mid-18th century, around 1750-1760. At the center of the graphometer is a finely engraved silver compass complete with its original magnetized needle. The semicircle is divided from 0° to 180° and from 180° to 0°. The instrument is complete with its ball joint and base, mounted on a modern wooden stand. Width: 29 cm, height: 16 cm. Height on stand: approximately 26 cm.
