Henri Baviera, born in 1934 in Nice, is a French painter and engraver closely associated with Saint-Paul de Vence. Trained from a young age in drawing, painting, and engraving in Nice and then in Paris, he opened a printmaking studio in Saint-Paul in the 1950s, which became a major center for creation and encounters. There, he associated with and collaborated with many renowned contemporary artists, including Arman, Hans Hartung, Gérard Schneider, James Guitet, Jean Miotte, André-Pierre Arnal, Manfredo Borsi, and other important figures on the art scene of the time. His work evolved from figurative art towards a personal abstraction inspired by nature, stone, and the origin of forms. A painter but also an inventive engraver, he developed the polychrome relief technique and explored a variety of other techniques. Henri Baviera is recognized for a rich and independent career, rooted in the artistic history of the French Riviera and open to a universal reflection on life.
