Robert Le Vrac De Tournières Painting
Important and superb oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman in court dress, believed to be a member of the Villiers family (perhaps Prudent Joseph de Villiers, 1580-1651), a councilor of the Châtelet in Paris, then a councilor of the Parliament of Paris and General of the Marne. The giltwood frame bears a cartouche of the renowned painter, and there are two labels on the reverse, illegible in places but mentioning the Villiers and Souchet families. There are some paint losses and five restorations on the back. Provenance: private collection.
