Cast Iron Fireplace Plate In Neo-renaissance Style, Mid-20th Century.
Neo-Renaissance style cast iron fireplace backplate, mid-20th century. It is adorned with the salamander of Francis I, a well-known symbol of the sovereign, engraved in stone at the Château de Chambord and the Château de Fontainebleau. According to legend, the salamander hibernates in tree stumps and awakens when they are set alight, hence its presence on this fireplace backplate. In addition to its decorative aspect, this cast iron backplate will protect the back of your fireplace and store the heat from your hearth, releasing it slowly. Weight: 50 kg.
