Signed lower left by the Belgian artist Charles Houben, associated with Impressionism and Luminism (a Belgian artistic movement). Charles Houben's work is characterized by his ability to capture light and atmospheric vibrations. He uses a clear and luminous palette, typical of the Luminists. His brushstrokes are quick and vibrant, seeking to seize the moment and its reflections. He primarily painted scenes of canals and undergrowth, landscapes (Flanders, the Ardennes, the area around Namur), and views of bustling cities (he notably painted Venice), often animated by a hazy or sunlit atmosphere. Charles Houben studied painting in Liège, then architecture in Brussels. For his fine arts training, he studied painting under Alfred Bastien. Many famous painters of his time were his friends, such as Pros de Wit, Géo Bernier, and Jean Gouweloos. Charles Houben has an established reputation in the Belgian and international art market.
