English Display Cabinet Forming A Music Stand, Mahogany Marquetry, England, Late 19th Century
A small English marquetry cabinet, forming a display cabinet in mahogany and marquetry, dating from the late 19th century. It is a music cabinet that serves as both a display cabinet and a music stand. The top, the back of which features a raised edge, reveals a first compartment. A shelf is positioned beneath the top so that it functions as a music stand when opened. The glass door (thick, beveled glass) opens to reveal three shelves covered in the original anise green velvet fabric. The top, the raised edge, and the front of the cabinet are embellished with marquetry friezes of precious woods. A delicate motif of musical instruments adorns the top of the door. The entire piece rests on small casters concealed by the cabinet's curved legs, allowing for easy movement. This charming and versatile piece could be perfectly used to house an internet router, a DVD player, etc.
