Large Box - Onyx-marble, Gilt Bronze, Cloisonne Enamels - H. Journet - Napoleon III
Large gilt bronze casket decorated with a frieze of polychrome cloisonné enamels, and its five onyx-marble plaques. Hinged lid. Made in Paris by Henri Journet; onyx plaques from the Compagnie des Onyx-Marbre d'Algérie (a very hard variety of agate). Engraved signature on one side (see photo). The onyx plaques and enamels are in perfect condition. The original gilding on the bronze mounts shows only minor wear. Note the quality of the onyx plaques and the fineness of the cloisonné enamels. Original interior lined with blue silk, slightly worn. Circa 1870. Length: 30.1 cm; Depth: 13.7 cm; Height: 11.9 cm
