Beautiful work by the painter Jean-Jacques Rousseau which represents a view of the Thames bustling with electric factories. Ships can be seen, and in the background, the working power plants with their smoking chimneys.
This work is a beautiful and rare testament to the industrial atmosphere of late 19th-century London. Another pastel view of London by the artist, dating from 1899, is also known.

He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1903. He created decorations for the former Museum of the Colonies in Paris.
