Gilt Bronze Cage Clock – Signed E. Colin & Cie – 19th Century
A finely chased gilt bronze cage clock, signed E. Colin & Cie, featuring rich neoclassical ornamentation. The top is decorated with a vase adorned with faun heads and trophies – torches, garlands, and other attributes – creating a majestic and highly refined composition. The case, glazed on four sides, reveals the movement and pendulum, highlighting the quality of the craftsmanship. The uprights are embellished with delicately sculpted drops, knots, and tassels. The base, supported by four decorative feet, is accented with foliate motifs and pearls. The gilt metal dial features Roman numerals, openwork hands, and finely engraved decoration. The original gilding is beautiful and very well preserved. An elegant showpiece, typical of Parisian production at the end of the 19th century. Colin & Cie was a Parisian clockmaker and bronze-worker active in the 19th century, specializing in the manufacture of high-quality decorative clocks. The workshop was renowned for its work in gilt bronze, often inspired by the Louis XVI style and neoclassicism, combining elegance, fine chiseling and rich decorative compositions.
