Pair Of Opera Glasses By Auguste Patte
A beautiful pair of opera glasses in ivory and copper, designed and manufactured by Auguste Patte, a Parisian optical engineer. This optician was renowned for crafting scientific and optical instruments. Specializing in binoculars and telescopes, he was a supplier to many celebrities of Parisian high society, as well as to prominent scientists. His shops and workshops were located at 168 rue de Rivoli and under the arcades of the Grand Hôtel du Louvre. The binoculars are preserved in their original leather case, which is in good condition. The leather shows some signs of age. The lenses are perfectly preserved. The extreme thinness of the ivory plates and marquetry reveals small cracks due to variations in age and atmospheric conditions.
