"Empire Restoration Period Clock, Gilt Bronze, 19th Century, Clockmaker Mallet, Orléans Duc "
Louis Mallet (active in the first half of the 19th century), clockmaker to the King and to His Grace the Duke of Orléans. Bronze clock with a double patina. Paris, circa 1820-1830. H. 42 x 22 x 14 cm. The clock rests on four rectangular gilt bronze feet. The base, surmounted by a vase, rests on a cyma molding decorated with palmettes. The dial has a very rich guilloche decoration and bears the signature of Louis Mallet, clockmaker to His Grace the Duke of Orléans. A work by Louis Mallet. An important clockmaker working at the beginning of the 19th century, he signed numerous clocks and delivered several examples to the Imperial Furniture Repository and the Royal Furniture Repository. A fine example, similar to our clock, is held at the Mobilier National (National Furniture Collection) under inventory number GML 7120. Literature: Clockmaker whose work is reproduced in Dupuy-Baylet (Marie-France), De bronze et de cristal (2020), pp. 134-135. Condition report: Very good overall condition and gilding remarkably fresh. The clock shows some wear to the hour numerals.
